That was a quick lunchtime read, but I found that it totally made me forget about my food. There's just something about Jeffrey's tales that draws you right in. You're totally sucked into the atmosphere, and although it's not "scary" as such, it still chills you to the bone. Once again it's beautifully dark and oppressive. Once again it's a little gem of poetry.
Written in the 1st person you are treated to the mind wanderings of the Cardinal.
An Immortal being proudly telling you about himself whilst being hounded by an owl....
In his first musings I was left bereft at the damnation of immortality as he portrays his life.
There felt, to me, an undertone of religious faith vs scientific truth here... showing the great divide - giving me things to ponder.
The twist in the tale is a sad one.
Mr Kosh is so poetic in his delivery I was left feeling melancholy but in a truly relaxed way. He also manages to put such great information into his stories I am left educated, enlightened and entertained.

As a fan of Lovecraft and Poe I opened this story excited to read a haunting, literary horror that gives you chills. I was not disappointed. In fact this story exceeded my expectations. What more can you ask of a historical horror than a cardinal gone mad? Who doesn't love seeing a debauched holy man haunted? I won't spoil it for you by giving anything away, I'll just say this is the sort of story that will stand the test of time.
Another hit in this readers book!!! Stryx, the ancient Roman & Greek word for owl, is a short story of terror. Very Poe-esc & Lovecraftian by design, Jeffrey Kosh once again spins a tale of terror that makes you think. Kosh has a knack for sucking you in to his universe. Another must read for anyone who loves a good terror tale, but who also like to think as they travel along the road.
A well-crafted tale of the darkness of greed and arcane knowledge; one person's way to use forbidden knowledge, evil sorceries to remain immortal for as long as possible. This book is almost like a poem in its tempo, word placement, and cadence. Very strong imagery of a lost soul. Very strong wording and unique words help build tension and keep the reader engaged. This book is so much more than I can possibly put into just a few words. It was for me very thought provoking and opened new channels of perceiving the world around us. Glad I read this book. Stryx
An immortal and an owl - how do these relate to each other. You will find out in Stryx, along with a bit of history into necromancy and myth. Jeffrey Kosh has pulled the two elements together so well that you will find yourself turning the virtual page quickly to find out what happens next to the Cardinal the owl continues to plague.
Along the way, you'll learn a bit of history so well incorporated into the story that you won't even notice until after you've turned the last page and the story is still mulling in your mind.
If you are looking for a dark, moody, atmospheric read that will stay with you - I encourage you to try this story - it is THAT good.
