I bought this book after watching the Netflix original " After Porn Ends" and Howie Gordon aka "Richard Pacheco" promoted his book.Its the way Howle Gordon writes and his humor that makes me love this book. I enjoyed the stories he told of the movies he has been in and the stars he worked with. I love porn, who doesn't but I always want to know the behind the scenes of the movies and get to know the people who perform and make them. Granted some of the people are not upstanding citizens but those that are, are human and they all have a story to tell. Howie delivers with this and I loved reading about that.
I am just about to turn 50 so the early 80's were my teenage years. Seka, Hyapatia Lee, Veronica Hart, Gloria Leonard, Vanessa Del Rio, Richard Pacheco Joey Silveira, John Leslie, and many others helped me "grow" up during that time. Reading this book brought me back to those glory days!

Many have viewed pornographic films in the past, but few admit it. May have been aroused, I'm sure by same, but few admit that either. All of us wonder how people can become such exhibitionist, submitting themselves to public observation of what most of us feel is not a spectator sport, but rather something best carried out in private.
In this HINDSIGHT, MEMOIRS, Howie Gordon introduces us to X-Rated films -- from it's day of "loops" to the full-fledged movie screens. In particular, he focuses on it's "Golden Years", the 1970's and the '80's as he relives his extraordinary adventures in that business.
There is an old, of color joke with the punch line of "Damn brother, don't believe I would have told that/" But Gordon tells it. Reflecting how money enticed him into the industry and on to his eventual stardom might make most of us think, "Damn brother, don't believe I would have told that." But Gordon tells it. And when he shares in his difficulties carrying out his masculine duties as a lover, "Damn! Damn, brother! I surely wouldn't have told anything about that!. But Gordon tells us that too! And he tells of it with a surprising humor and style in a truthful, fascinating manner.
We learn of his working relations with the producers, directors, camera people and of course his fellow actors and actresses. It seems that the camaraderie developed over the years is amazing in itself. Even more amazing, however, is his relationship with his wife, children, parents and in-laws, over those years climaxing in the publication of HINDSIGHT.
This book surprised me. I'm betting it will surprise you too.
I have often said a man only lies about two things, his sex life and his mileage. Gordon convinced me he is not lying about his sex life and of course there is little argument about his mileage.
'Hindsight True Love & Mischief in the Golden Age of Porn' is one of the best books I have ever read! I truly mean this. Echoes of the writing style of Joseph Heller (Catch 22) and Norman Mailer color Howie Gordon's style, which ultimately, is his own, and quite unique. As Richard Pacheco (star of numerous adult films in years past) Howie had a disarming charm about him, and seemed mature beyond his years. He was a good actor as well, and during pornography's 'Golden Age' "performed" alongside a number of often stunning, sometimes talented women. The cast of characters and people who come and go and come and go in Howie's life are numerous. Familiar names like Anthony Spinelli (the acclaimed director of some of the best films in the genre), John Leslie, Seka, and others appear alongside Howie's "agent" and "God"...two 'voices' who chide him for deeds done, urge him onward...or comment on his life. At nearly 700 pages this is truly a page-turner unlike no other I've come across in many many years. I like how Howie documents how the colorful West Coast lifestyles of the late 60s and early 70s gave way to a whole new way of thinking, feeling, and being, and how in some ways, contributed to the birth of the classic (and best) adult movies (referred to now as the "Golden Age"). There's sadness and joy, and lots of laughs in here along with the drama as Howie writes of a lifetime of love, friendship, deaths, and births in his unique confessional style. If you're a fan of Richard Pacheco's work, or of the classic age of adult movies, you will find this book truly a worthy purchase.
